Research Collaboration

This section introduces research collaboration with Japanese industry supported through the FRIENDSHIP project, and voices from participating researchers.

Through these initiatives, researchers at IITH and Japanese companies have built collaborative networks that continue to evolve beyond the framework of the project.


Joint Research Projects


A total of 4 joint research projects has been supported through the FRIENDSHIP 2.0 Research Fund in addition to company led joint research.

These projects connected faculty members from IITH and Japanese companies. Next steps of collaboration such as obtaining external research fund to start a new business, recruit students and so forth are expected.

Hackathons and related events have provided opportunities for students to engage directly with Japanese companies, work on practical challenges, and better understand industry needs and expectations. Industry Lecture is IITH’s official mediatory session for MTech students.

Internship and Career Opportunities

These interactions have also contributed to internship and employment opportunities in Japanese industry for IITH students and graduates, helping strengthen human resource connections between IITH and Japanese industry.

Joint Education Program

IITH and Japanese companies can jointly develop an education program/course for sharing the technologies and expertise of Japanese companies with students.

IIT Hyderabad Technology Research Park (TRP)

The presence of Japanese companies in the Technology Research Park is expected to further enhance opportunities for interaction, innovation, and long-term collaboration at IITH.

As of April 2026, two Japanese companies listed below are stationed at TRP.

  • Mitsubishi Electric (Co-Creation Lab)
  • Dainippon Printing (R&D Base at IIT Hyderabad)

Institutional Collaboration

IITH has established institutional partnerships more than 20 Japanese companies including local governments through Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) as of April 2026.

Many of these institutional partnerships have led to active collaboration between IITH and Japanese industry.
